I learned long ago to detour New Rome....you think they pull you over fast in
a car....try going through there on a harley!!!!

Jim says:

I bet!  I remember there was a bike convention of some sort in town and a bunch of bikers driving down Broad Street!  I bet they didn't pull any of them groups over.  They probably soiled their pants and stayed out of site.

Greetings Jim:  I'm Dave the founder & president of;

We hunt DRB'S all over the world. We have over 12,000 members at present time. Hope to sign up some of your supporters today. Are you having fun yet?
I thought so. Dave

Jim says:

Hey Dave!  It was good seeing you at the march and I hope your hunting goes well in New Rome.  There is a big selection and they sure don't hide.

This isn't a tale of woe but a heads up. Being a civil servant for 8 years and a lifelong POW (poor old westsider) there is something we can do to just harass the hell out of the powers that be.

It seems that a number of complaints have been submitted by individuals that feel they have been wronged. If I am not mistaken all complaints must be filed in a personnel file. Each and every employee of New Rome must have a file for, if nothing else, payroll tracking. And this file is open to examination by anyone who wishes to review the records of any employee because it is public record. At any time anybody can walk in and demand to review all of the personnel records for the village.

I don't know if it will make a difference but it may turn over a couple of stones and give a little ammo for the fight. Keep up the fight!!!! Justice must be served!!!!

Ricky

Jim says:

I doubt they have record for their staff.  Heck, they can't even keep accounting records!  The chief admits that if someone files a complaint it is disregarded unless it is done in person.  It's like complaining to the King about the King!  Who do they think they are fooling?

Wow, what a site. I have known about New Rome for a long long time but after reading the T.O.W.'s just feel absolutely disgusted that this can still be going on in these times. I had written a letter to the editor at the Dispatch but had not sent it. It was about all the city council crap going on there and what a joke of a town it was. I could not get it short enough to be
confident it would have a chance of being printed so I responded to some crazy ladies letter about Northland Mall instead and it was printed. We need to get alot more people sending in those letters. There has to be a way to get those so called officers in trouble for the way they treat people. Has anyone tried a hidden camera approach? One of the local news stations or 48
hours would probably love to do something like that. Good luck,  Brian Steyer...never been a target in New Rome

Jim says:

We could get COPS to sit with them and film.  What an exciting episode that would be!  I think people should write into The Columbus Dispatch.  You can do it online if I'm not mistaken.  Keep the pressure on them.

Hello Jim, my name is Bill Skinner, I moved to Holly Hills with my parents and siblings. I now live in Memphis, Tn.. I am 52 years old and was around 12 or 13 when we moved to the west side. My wife and I left Columbus in August of 1990. I have in the past driven through New Rome many many times. I have been back to Columbus many times since 1990 and have driven thru New Rome several times each time We were home. Of all the tickets I have received would you believe I've never received one in New Rome. Knock on wood. I know what New Rome is. I also believe if I'm not mistaken Whatever New Rome takes in in traffic fines or violations can not be but so much compared to their total income. I think someone caught them on that already. They were found guilty along with Valley View of Entrapment. A speed limit sign must be in reasonable sight. on or near the ground is not reasonable. There are laws to protect citizens from these types of abuses. If you want to see just the opposite come to Memphis,Tn. then you would appreciate police officers doing their jobs.
Have A Good Day,
Take Care and God Bless
William

Jim says:

Thanks for your support William.  I'm glad you didn't have to experience a New Rome ticket.  It can be a very unpleasant experience as you may have read.  New Rome gets like 95% of their budget from tickets and it's not illegal to do so in Ohio yet.  The state/county frowns on it, but doesn't stop it.  As for laws to protect us they don't exist.  I showed them the Ohio Revised Code saying that if a sign isn't in proper view it can't be enforced and they said their sign was fine.  How's that for justice.  I think most of out law enforcement agencies in Franklin County does good work.  It's always the bad apples that spoil the barrel.

You go, boy.

I spent the first eighteen years of my life in that shithole (actually, I lived on Pasadena Avenue, which is technically not in New Rome, but in the Little Farms subdivision--whatever).

I am now a public defender in California.  I can tell you that my career path had more than a little to do with the police in New Rome.  They were abusive, arrogant, and incompetent.  Ironically, it was only after I spent a couple of years doing criminal defense work out here that I realized not all cops are like that.

Good luck on your march tomorrow.  Please keep the website current--it cracks me up.

Suzy
Loma Linda, California

Jim says:

Thanks Suzy!  That's a great story!  always does me good to hear of someone getting out of the boondocks to be successful.  Not that you couldn't have done the same here.  Just living here in Columbus all my live has made me more than a little jaded with it.

I have lived close to new rome (this town does not deserve to be capitalized)  since 1970, and I for one have had absolutely no respect for the idiot government of that town. Many years ago a friend of mine was picked up on a new rome side street and charged for speeding (27 in a 25 mph zone). Can you believe that? My solution to the new rome wart is to get a bunch of bulldozers and spend a day just dozing it down....

George

Jim says:

Good thing they got that speed demon off the road, eh?  I would believe just about anything at this point.  I often have joked that if I ever won a large amount of money I would buy all the houses in New Rome and do just that.  I'm sure the PD would still try to operate even with no Village to protect.

Go Get'um Guys Everyone on the West Side Supports you!
NEW ROME SUCKS NEW ROME SUCKS NEW ROME SUCKS
                                                                            anonymous

Jim says:

Ahhh if only that were true.  I have gotten a couple emails from people who claim to live on the west side and go through New Rome all the time and never gets pulled over.  So we must just deserve it is what they tell me.  I thank you for your support and I do think most people are with us on this.

Jim;
It's time people stand up and tell the "Family City Council" Of New Rome that we are fed up with their "Big Brother Police Force". Route 40 is a national highway for public use. No one going through New Rome should have to worry about some smalltown Barney Fife pulling them over for suspicion or going a couple miles an hour over the speed limit. People shouldn't be inconvenienced by having to bypass the village to avoid these hassles. Tell Cunningham and his overpaid Boy Scouts that the public is tired of paying hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to the New Rome Retirement Fund. Good luck with your case and the march Saturday.
RJ

Jim says:

Thank for your support RJ.  They seem to think they own that part of Route 40.  They may as well set up a toll booth.  Remember the story Three Billy Goats Gruff?  We need a really big billy goat to come knock the mean ol' troll out of the picture.

hey guys,
i heard about yr site and the protest tomorrow on the radio this morning.  my boyfriend was arrested at his job a few months ago for not paying a ticket for a broken headlight in time, and i've read some of the stories on yr site and they freakin piss me off.  we want to go to the protest tomorrow, but we don't have much money between us and are scared of being arrested/ticketed for something ridiculous (my drivers liscense got stepped on and broke in half and is now taped together- uh oh.)  we want to stand up for our rights, as well as everyone elses, but can't afford to be arrested and heavily fined on the whim of these assholes.  i think it would really help if you could make a flyer or something to hand out at the protest that lists the rights of a person participating in a peaceful protest.  also, do you know if any news channels are planning on covering the protest?

well thanks, and good luck.

anne

Jim says:

We handed out a flier like that of some sorts.  For the most part you have to break some big laws in order for them to arrest you for a protest since it's our right.  While it is true that for the most part they don't give a damn about our rights, they would have a lot of heat doing anything to anyone with the media right there in their face.  Even the one guy they tried to give crap to was let go because the smarter of the two cops told him to just let him go.

Jim,

Love the detail you guys have done.New Rome is an embarrassment to all of Columbus and Franklin County and the State of Ohio.Ive never have gotten a ticket but Im sure one day Ill get one.I have seen New Rome Police as far as Georgesville and Broad, and if you look different or dont like the vehicle your driving they will follow people just for intimidation purposes alone.I have also seen them as far west where the current New Krogers store is.Giving people tickets and such not just one time but at least 2 dozen times over the course of one year.We the people of this side of town need to start a refredendum to oust New Rome and have it completely DISSOLVE,and incorporated into Columbus. If the 111 people of New Rome dont like it then let them move some where else.WE THE PEOPLE have the say so and the power and NEED to HAVE our VOICES heard an ACTION TAKEN.They the so called city council cant even decide who is Mayor or on the Council, how can they even think they can even run a village. They are TERROIST (NRPD)and use every tactic possible. They just need to be eliminated permanetly by voting no need for violence. There has to be a loop hole some where in the law to close them down.I dont care what kind of awards they have gotten over the years. For all I no they could of lied on paper to get what they wanted all these years. They probably have no checks and balance procedure and if they do Im sure there is two sets, since it is very well known fact they are CORRUPT in EVERYWAY.Its to bad I have to work Saturday, I do back you guys and anyone else in this adventure.I believe this protest should be held every Saturday for as long as possible

Larry
Rangers lead the way/82nd all the way

Jim says:

I wish there was a loophole to shut them down.  I believe the people of Franklin County should be able to vote them away.  If they can affect our life we should be able to affect theirs in numbers.  This would be a good way to tell what we think of their tactics.

I just want to say - I love your site!  And I too was a victim about 10 years ago of THEM!  Needless to say, your site has made my day!

Good luck tomorrow - and above all - have fun!  Maybe I will drop by!

10 years ago.  This is one thing that I'm not happy about staying the same.

Well, I would like to say that I support you COMPLETELY.  I used to delivery pizzas in that area and I would have to say that the police are watchdogs.  You can’t even go through without seeing a police car sitting along the side of the road.  I personally have not been pulled over, because I was warned beforehand by a couple of co-workers, but I support your cause.

I heard about your cause on WBZX (99.7 Blitz) this morning on my way to work, and then just a few minutes ago again on WBNS (10TV).

Just thought I would drop this note and say ‘Keep up the good work!!’

Sincerely
Korie

Jim says:

A job that makes you drive through New Rome.  Ouch.  That's got to be a high stress job there!  Heaven forbid your headlight go out while you're working!

Keep up the good fight. I know what it is like to fight in a small town (but not a traffic ticket).
Rick
Granville, Ohio

Jim says:

Thanks for your support Rick.  This whole problem has grown to much more than my traffic ticket.  I am a firm believer in putting an end to corruption and abuse.  This is what New Rome thrives on and I will not be happy until it is gone.

Hi Jim-
Although we've lived in Galloway off Norton Road for almost 2 years, I've only recently become aware of all the problems in New Rome.  In the beginning, when I drove through that section of town, I just assumed it was a speed trap and responded accordingly.  But after reading the horrendous things on your website, I'm now afraid to drive through there at all!  It makes me wonder how many times my plates have been run and if I just got lucky!   See, I'm one of those people who seems to be a traffic cop magnet:   When the idiot on the freeway passes me doing 90, the cop just happens to look up when I go by at 72.   And I have NEVER been let off with a warning.
So let me get this straight:  it's just that section of Broad Street between Norton Rd. and Rome-Hilliard that we have to worry about, right?   That will be plenty easy enough for me to avoid.
I'm very much in favor of wiping New Rome off the map (as if it was ever ON it to begin with!).   But what happens when New Rome is dissolved into Columbus, and those Nazi cops have MORE jurisdiction??????

Good luck with your case, the class-action suit, and the March on New Rome tomorrow (I'd go, but I have to work).  And for now, I'll sign this

A Future New Rome Victim-
Erin

Jim says:

That is the section to avoid Erin.  When I started this site I expected to get message from people who had been ticketed in the same way I had.  I never dreamed I would hear stories of mental and physical abuse as I have received.  It only makes me more determined to end it.  Some people don't understand why I am continuing the fight and think I should "move on".  I don't understand how some people can turn a blind eye to such a place as New Rome.

For all you people pulled over after random checks the U.S. Supreeme Court ruled that it was UNCONSTITUTIONAL for police to randomly check license plates on 4th amendment ground

Good stuff to know!  Thanks!

Hello

I just visited your site when I saw the URL in the Cols. Dispatch.....I think its terrific!

I have lived here on the Westside all of my life, and boy could I tell some stories. I actually know for a fact that most if not all of the council and all previous mayors out there are related by blood or marriage, and its been that way for 30 years at least.

Once, years ago, I stopped in the bar out there looking for a friend I was supposed to meet. I stayed for one beer (only one of the day) and left.  When I got to my car in the lot, it was blocked by 2 new rome (capitalization purposely left out) police cars, and they were basically searching my car. They said it had been there all day and the chalk marks on the tires proved it, they showed me where one of them supposedly marked my tire nearly 8 hrs prior. In reality, the car was there maybe 15 minutes, and when it was supposedly marked, it was really on a jobsite in southern Delaware county.

Even though I never even tried to get in my car that had only been there 15 minutes, and the hood was still warm, they made me do those bogus tests. So here I am with a very thin coat on in 15-20 degree weather, wearing new cowboy boots walking a line on 2 inches of ice.........naturally you can imagine how that went.

I was arrested and placed in a cruiser (to this day I don't know what the charge would have been) and they called the mayor on the radio to run a check on me. Just to show how crooked they are (more so) the Mayor at the time was a personal friend of mine, and as soon as he recognized my name, they were ordered to let me go with no further harassment. He even said that if I really was drunk, to escort me out of the village........which didn't happen, because they knew I was not drunk, and it was all a scam.

Back then the drill was $ 500 to get out of an OMVI in the mayors court instead of having it transferred to the Franklin County courts, which is mandatory today, so they have switched to even more pettiness to make up the difference.

It seems to me that over the years, through countless administrations in new rome, the one common denominator has always been the chief of police. That man has been involved with EVERYTHING in that burg for 25 years that I know of. I kinda think that he is the key to all the corruption that goes on, or at least knows every detail.

Im sure the pertinent thing to do would be to disband the village, but even this Ron O'Brien is dragging his feet on it....it seems that when a government agency needs some policing, they always take their good ole time on it. Corruption in the private sector is dealt with swiftly and sometimes harshly (depending on whose friend it is.)
We all know we have different sets of rules for folks and different ways of applying them........it all depends on who you are, as to what punishments if any will be dealt.

I wish you luck.

Jim says:

There are several people who think that Chief Cunningham is one of the bad seeds.  I certainly wouldn't be surprised.  From everything I have read about him he needs to go, but it appears it is very hard to fire anyone from that Village.  I don't understand this.  I bet if they get a good honest Chief in there the PD would get cleaned up real quick.

New Rome is a joke ....I am on a Village council and we sure do not get by with all that crap they do.They are just a bunch of  WHITE TRASH HILLBILLIES !!!!!! taking advantage of people and their money. They are just paying each other from the money they get in fines nice little scam huh? I hope they do get run out of town . And by the way I don't think they get much if anything if people ask for their traffic violations to go to Franklin County, not sure but check on it .It is about time someone tried to run them off . They do not deserve to be a council for that small of a Village...I am behind the new Mayor also tell him to hang in there.

Jim says:

Don't insult hillbillies like that!  They are greedy bastards.  There is a difference.  I happen to be part hillbilly and wouldn't run a Village like they do.

I am not sure how they got away with it for so long.  It really baffles the mind when you read all the horror stories.  I wish it was as easy as running them out of town.

this web sites great jim good job. i live in hebron oh and i got to tell yea bud they deffinately need a web site about Buckeye Lake like this. There ticket happy out there too. There biggest thrill is dui`s. they go as far as driving buy the three taverns that the have there all day long chocking tires if you know what i mean. they got the limit for alchol down so low that its almost impossiable to pass the test and the Buckeye Lake cops know this and take full advantage of this. Later and keep up the good work. stay vigilent.  Patriot, Hebron Oh

Jim says:

Thanks for your support.  There are police abusing the system all over.  The whole law system need an overhaul.  The way it currently is the wealthy people are more likely to get away with bad things.  This bothers me.  I think everyone should get equal treatment in the eyes of the law.  Maybe someone should make thelegalsystemsucks.com.

Dear Jim,
I Heard about your web site and rally tomorrow on radio station 1480 WHBC in Canton, OH.  Checked out the web site and it looks good.  Keep up the good work.

Don

Jim says:

Thanks for your support Don.  Canton?  Wow.  I am impressed with the wide area that was reached.

Neat site. It was mentioned in the DISPATCH today, FYI.

New Rome is sounding like it is almost as bad as The City of Columbus! A columbussucks site would be neat.

DON

Jim says:

Thanks for your support Don!  This would be a columbussuck.com if they did to me what New Rome did.

Great Site, Jim

Heard about it on both WTVN-610AM and QFM96, WLVQ - 96.3 FM

Keep Up the Good Work!!

Roger

Jim says:

Thanks for your support Roger.  Wow!  That's a lot of stations!  I only told 610.  Thanks to anyone who promoted the march!

Has anyone ever check on the police chief's previous employment and why he left that job. I have known this egghead for a great number of years and I can assure you that if I were the head of Police Department, he would never work for me. Check him out.
Jim

Jim says:

He has been chief there for a really long time and running the JUMP camp.  Other than that I don't know.  Maybe Taco Bell?  Heck I would work 4-8 hours a week for $10,000 a year!

I have lived in Dallas since 1987 but used to work at Westinghouse in the 60's. Everyone that worked there, and there were about 5500 at the time, knew about New Rome and the problems you could incur for just driving through there. I am amazed that this is still going on after all these years, this needs to stop.

We used to have this problem in Texas until a state law was passed prohibiting ticket revenue from being over a certain percentage of the city revenue. This shut down the speed traps that little towns lived off of. Sounds like Ohio could benefit from a similar law.

Go Bucks.

Don in Dallas

Jim says:

When I found out how long New Rome has been doing this I was amazed.  When the stories of their abuse came rolling in I was even more amazed.

They certainly do need a law like that in Ohio and in every state.  New Rome needs to be made to pay for their wrongs too.

Hi, Jim!

Just a quick note to say that I found your website today (through a link in a Columbus Dispatch on-line article) and loved it!  Thank god I don't have any personal tales to tell, but at the ripe ole age of 29, I have heard New Rome horror stories all my life!  I live in a little burg called Plain City.  Ever since I can remember, we actually called our town cops 'New Rome rejects'.  Pretty bad, huh?!  They're notorious for really stupid things.

We had one cop while I was still in high school that literally fell asleep behind the wheel of the police cruiser while on duty - might not have been so bad if he wasn't parked right on main street!  He's the same officer that was so overweight (I hope that's politically correct enough) that he got stuck (yes, seriously) behind the wheel once and couldn't get out after pulling someone over - he eventually let them go (this was a friend of mine).  They are also good at ticketing for yellow lights.

A few years ago, I pulled out of a pizza shop parking lot after picking up an order and headed west on 161 out of town and toward home.  Not 30 yards away from the pizza place, one of our cops pulled me over.  His only 'excuse' was that I had gone, get this, not left of center, but right of the white line!  He then wanted to know where I had been.  Told him the pizza shop.  Wanted to know if I'd picked up an order, told him I had, so he wanted to see it!  So I offered him a piece of the pizza on the front seat beside me.  He then proceeded to tell me he thought maybe I had been drinking.  What a moron!  He had sat in the parking lot across the street from the pizza joint and watched me pull out before pulling me over.  This is a place that doesn't even serve alcohol!!  Guess I was a little too 'smart' for him because he then told me to have the alignment on my 92
Bronco checked and let me go - no warning or ticket.  I found out later that they had done this to several other people that same week.

Anyway, I would LOVE to join your march this saturday, but will be unable to.  However, my thoughts are definitely with you!  Way to go!  Stick to your principles!

Toni

Jim says:

Great story Toni!  Ticket at a yellow light.  That's another one I would fight!  I heard Columbus Police Trainers threaten their men with working for New Rome to motivate them.  I would love to hear that!

I haven't received a ticket from New Rome yet.  I have lived at the Franklin Madison county line for 24 years.  I pass through New Rome all of the time. I love your web site.

I am also an ex-auxiliary Sgt. for the Columbus Police Dept.  Do you know the questions to ask the officer in court about the methods of detecting speed,  his certification, if radar was used-the units calibration and certification?

As a side note, are you also aware that Chief Cunningham is a convicted felon.  He was arrested, convicted, and did time for auto theft when he was 18.  He had that expunged from his record.

THANKS,
David

Jim says:

Thanks for your support David.  I hope New Rome never decides to get you.  I would hate to have you mail me a T.o.W.  People have mailed me about what to ask an Officer.  My problem is I'm not much of getting up in front of people and talking.  I now know I should have had a lawyer in appeals court.  It's not a mistake I will ever make again!

Since 60 would not make a village under current State Law and if a City drops below the required population they are made a Village by the State how can the law allow New Rome to exist? I don't buy into the grandfathered idea. New Rome does not have the required population to be a village then they should be dissolved by the State of Ohio without question.

They exist only to line someone's pockets since they doe no snow removal, they install no sidwalks curbs or gutters and provide no services. By the way speaking of the sidewalks along this eyesores strech of W Broad St I hop no one trips and twist an ankle or worse in the March tomorrow. It would be terrible to have to sue the village because they did not make sure the sidewalks were safe. So be careful !!!

New Rome has no reason to exist and has got to go.

Terry

Jim says:

Right on Terry!  The State should have the power to dissolve Villages based on their population.  I think the population is a good indicator of the Villages well being.  New Rome's population have been declining for a long time.  Are they still going to be allowed to exist when the population is outnumbered by the NRPD?  How about the businesses?  The only one making serious money is the NRPD!  The legit business who can't force customers to pay suffer.

Way to go, Jim!
I have been reading with great interest the events going on in New Rome these last few months. Though it has been years since I've been there (I learned long since to avoid it), I applaud any effort to give them their "come-uppance". From the first time I ever heard of New Rome, it was talked of as a joke and a speed trap. I got a ticket for going 2 miles over the speed limit about 20 - 25 years ago, but I didn't have to go to court. In fact, as I remember, I paid the ticket on the spot. Funny... I don't think those points appeared on my record, hmmmm.....

When I read today's Dispatch article about the Protest March, I cheered! Then I saw that you had set up a "New Rome Sucks" website and had to check it out. As incredible as so many of these stories are, I'm simply not surprised. As far as I'm concerned, New Rome is not a municipality... it is a scam, and at $400,000 per year, a very lucrative one.

You have embarked on a very noble cause,so... GO GET THEM, GENTLEMEN!

David

Jim says:

Thanks for you support David.  Points not appearing on records seem to be the norm for New Rome.

Jim,
This site is great!  I had some experience with those corrupt cops being  a West Jefferson and working on the west-side, would like to join the march. dropped you a line concerning some of the other neato websites that slander New Rome with the truth. about.com even has someone from that end of town doggin New Rome complete with a scandal timeline. much publicity about this web site (heard it during the Howard Stern 97.9 commercials) news 4,6,10,28 Columbus dispatch and even word of mouth from people who live as far away as Lancaster KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK and with the march tomorrow, carpe diem! Dot have a lot of time but if there is anything i could do to help the cause and have New Rome dissolved please drop me an e-mail

Jim says:

Thanks for your support!  John from about.com is a great guy.  I think he dislikes New Rome as much as I do.  I just wanna know what will happen to us when New Rome is gone?  Maybe we could start a movie review show.  "Movie Time with John and Jim"   Maybe not.  I don't think we will be going anywhere soon.

Just visted your site and want to say "GOOD LUCK"  will check back to see how your march goes. We need more people like you.!!!!!!!

Lima

Jim says:

Thanks for your support.  Everyone can be like me.  I'm an average Joe really.  Perhaps I have an overdeveloped sense of justice, but that's about it.

The Ohio Leads Network is headed by Attorney General Betty Montgomery but  there is a Steering Committee made up of appointed members usually a member  of the State Highway Patrol, A Sheriff and a Police Chief among others.

They meet to review rules and make change recommendations. I would bet that if public pressure was applied about how New Rome ran tags at the redlight they would come up with a way to put a stop to this since it if made public statewide might reveal abuses in other areas of the state by other small ticket happy towns.

This would hopefully result in the removal of New Rome's Leads access. It is odd that New Rome even has a Leads terminal or access and I would bet that the "dispatchers" they are using are not Leads Certified thus this alone would result in the suspension or removal of their Leads Terminal.

Can you find out if they have a Leads Terminal and if they do I will take it from there and raise enough questions with The State Patrol they will have to start an investgation or end up embarrassed. I can operate a Leads Terminal and at one time was Certfied by the State patrol as Required BY LAW.  Something New Rome knows nothing about "THE LAW" that is.

Robocop

Jim says:

Well they do have Leads certificates all over their wall when you walk in the trailer.  I did notice that.  Though I do think they abuse the system.  I'm sure they would tie a camera into it so they could monitor everyone on foot too if they could.

Rome is about like Powel ohio they have POP UP SPEED SIGNS SOME ABOUR 100 FEET APART. its about time that some one does some thing about a disgracement that the police is making out of new rome.

Jim says:

I haven't really been through Powel, but I have heard some people complain about it.  I think Ohio needs to address these problems.

Just a thought, I saw your website listed in the dispatch and took a look.  If you really want to cause problems for NRPD, start filing complaints with the U.S. Dept of Justice. You never know, look at the problems Columbus Police have with them now over police abusing thier powers.

Jim says:

This is a good idea.  If we get them swamped with thousands of complaints they have to listen and do something about it.

I live in Hilliard but have to drive through the cesspool entiled New Rome. I have never had a ticket from the town but watch carefully and drive at 20-25 miles per hour through the New Rome scrap yard.

While I blame the extortionists in New Rome the most, I also blame our State Legislature for allowing this modern-day highway robbery to contine. The State is sovereign and could stop this travesty if they would get off their rusty, dusty rear ends long enough to do so!

I have NEVER participated in any march before but will participate in this one no matter what weather confronts us. Your web site is appreciated and I heard about it on WTVN radio. I look forward to meeting a lot of New Rome haters tomorrow!

James

Jim says:

I just avoid driving through all together.  Stopping you because you license plate light is too dim is good enough reason for them to give you a ticket.

Thanks for your support and I hope to see you when we next march.

Wow, New Rome Police give new meaning to the term, "jack booted thugs."

Best of luck on your march today.  I hope you embarass the crap out of them.  Of course it is hard to insult that type.

Maybe they should replace their department insignia with a swastika.  They sure sound like fascist pigs to me.

Hey!  Reminds me; remember the pigs of the sixties?  Maybe it was New Rome police.

Jeff

Jim says:

Thanks!  Everything was great!   Hmmm..we should ask them to put on their gas masks for a group photo.

Jim,
Good luck on your march.  I wish I could be there to add the support in numbers.  As you have heard from so many....I have a story to tell as well.  First, I am currently retired just West of Knoxville, TN and before that lived in Gahanna but.....many years ago, I lived on Murray Hill Road, just off West Broad.  Even back then, New Rome had a reputation that their income was from the many traffic tickets.  One day many years ago, my wife & I were transporting a wedding cake through New Rome on W. Broad.  We were going very slowly and the rest of traffic was going "slightly" faster.  Based upon our speed, my wife & I estimated the rest of the pack at 3 miles an hour over the limit.  A head of us were two officers, motioning every car to the side of the road for speeding tickets.  We were the only car allowed to pass.  I have never seen so many stopped for such a slight violation.  I know 3 miles and hour over the speed limit is speeding but come on.......where else would they have been stopped?  Thank heavens for the wedding cake.

Jim says:

Wow.  Mass traffic tickets!  That is new one!  Yes it is "speeding" but officers can use discretion.  If the word of the law was so strict why not put speed detectors on all of our cars and links them to a GPS and ticket us every time it notices we are speeding.  Yeah, I am sure they will try that some day.  A car rental place already did!  Believe it or not the government made them stop.

Jim,
This is in reference to Larry who wrote in the reader support mail and questioned the riot gear. I wrote that about the riot gear and did intend it to be a joke. At least it should be, but you know, the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that New Rome wouldn't hesitate to show up during the march dressed in the gear to protect their three block town against us, the peaceful men, women, children and babies, who are tired of the corrupt government and police in which they have. I know that they do have them. All police departments do as part of their equipment.
I look at them as equal to the Nazi's back during the holocaust and what they did to the Jewish people. It sickens my stomach, and disgusts me, as a son of a deceased Columbus Police Officer, thinking that. Just as that one lady who wrote and said how sad it was. Most of the "violators" in the trailer with her for court could not even speak English.
(Racial Profiling? You Betcha!!!!)
What a disgrace!
With all the money they raked in on traffic citations for "random checks", dirty tags, dimmed tag lights, missing tag bolts, 36 in a 35, 1 min expired tags, and so forth, I am surprised that they have not bought a couple military helicopters to run traffic watch.
(opps! Now that I said that and they read this, it gives them the idea. They could use the trailer roof as a helipad)

The march? I, my wife and three children will be there Jim, and support US (the people) all the way!!!!

Jim says:

I sure wouldn't have been surprised if they had be on "high alert"  I have heard several stories from people who think they were profiled.  Again, this doesn't surprise me.  Nothing they do would.  Well short of closing down.
