7:49am - Special New Rome Meeting! Everyone please join us
at the New Rome Meeting Wednesday June 19th at 7pm. This Special
Meeting is to talk about the illegal 35 MPH speed limit. I will
be there and we're thinking lots of media will be there. So come
join us!
Couple article that mention New rome.
Article - BEER SALES FACING THE PENALTY BOX AT NATIONWIDE
The funny line is "This madness is inevitable when liquor cops go after violations with the tenacity and discretion of New Rome police going after unbuckled seat belts."
Steve Stephens is great. He needs to write a hard core "I hate New Rome" article for us. He slams them at every chance. Get it off your chest Steve! Let your New Rome hate show! Be proud!
Article -
Columbus City Council decides speed-limit change will be up to
state
Jim says:
"To make an artificially low speed limit effective requires heavy enforcement. . . . This usually creates a backlash (i.e., W. Broad Street through New Rome),'' Beard wrote.
He is right! Lower speed limits don't save
lifes. Safe drivers do! I'm sorry but getting hit going 25
or 35 is a hard hit. To want this done because "Leon Bass said
it's only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured if the
speed limit isn't reduced" bugs me. Geee...it's only a matter of
time before a plane blows up and kills lots of people! Better stop
flying them! The logic of some people.
8:47am - This story isn't about New Rome, but talks
about their housing.
Gee, New Rome has no big houses! No big surprise there.
7:54am - Nothing like New Rome being in the news
to brighten the day!
Article - New Rome speed limit illegal?
So why can't ODOT do something about the speed limit? Something about this doesn't make sense. I would think that based on ODOTs ruling that the Franklin County prosecutor would have this investigated and bring charges against New Rome if it is found that they have been breaking the law? Oh wait. That would be doing something for the people. Can't have that!8:30am - I read about the last meeting. It said that the old council AGAIN wants to know about someone not living in the Village being Mayor and being on the Council. Wasn't this already addressed?!?! Maybe they didn't spell it out in simple enough terms. It also mentions Mary Chapman wanted to know if they could vote someone off Council for not agreeing with them. Saying something that dumb just defies reason. And the Clerk wanting her pay doubled because she has to work more. WAAAHHHHH! Quit if you don't like it!
I know I may seem a bit harsh, but these people aren't
qualified to run a paper route. Let alone make important decisions
on the Village. They don't seem to have mature reason and logic.
What they say and do is so childlike. There should be a law against
nepotism in the Government.
5:51pm - Brian Wolk was fired for writing a book titled "Ohio Traffic Tickets Are For the Birds" and is now suing. Here is a copy of the pending suite.
Great job for standing up for your right Brian and
New Rome Sucks supports you!
1:17pm - I missed yesterdays meeting. Just forgot all about it. I know I just mentioned it the other day, but that's how it goes. Anyone want to fill me in on what happened? I'm hoping The Dispatch will mention it.
Speaking of mention I found some letters about them:
6/4/02 EDITORIAL - MAYORS' COURTS ARCANE, SHOULD BE DISMANTLED
Jim says:
You go Roy! I think Mayors Court should be eliminated also. We are 1 of 2 states that still uses Mayors Court?!?!? How typical is that. And they wonder why we have the worst traffic state. How embarrassing.
6/4/02 ARTICLE - CENTRAL OHIOANS RICHER, SMARTER, CENSUS DATA SHOW
Jim says:
Interesting part here is:
"The biggest jumps in the decade were in New Rome, where the poverty rate for its 60 residents rose to 18.5 percent from 2.7 percent; and in Whitehall, where the rate went up by more than 5 percentage points, to 14.9 percent from 9.2 percent, for its 19,201 residents."
Their poverty rate went up 18.5% and their PD brings
in $450,000. What's wrong with this picture? How sad.
7:36am - Contest
The Contest winner will be announced in the next couple days while our judges review the entries. Thanks to everyone who joined in. There are a lot of great ideas.
The monthly New Rome Sucks, er I mean New Rome Council meeting is going on tomorrow at 6pm in the trailer. I will be there of course and hope to see some more of you there! I should start interviewing the council members for the site. heh
New Rome hasn't been in the news recently!
Not to worry though. This thing always slows down some and then
something happens to bring it to the spot light again.
1:27pm - Happy Anniversary!!!
That's right! Yesterday marks my 1 year anniversary of my New Rome ticket! Ahhh what a year it has been.
Friday I called into the Corby show because some fool was going off about "if you don't break the law you won't get tickets" and about how New Rome is so safe blah blah blah. What a fool.
Stay tuned! Only good things to come!
9:26pm - Another Picture
It's know all over the Universe!
8:57pm - I have updated the T.O.W and Reader Support Mail with all the back issues. I didn't reply to the old ones through mail. Hope that doesn't happen again and I get behind by almost 2 months.
6:27pm - Making fun of New Rome again
Hi Jim,
My name is William Grim and I'm a native of Columbus. I'm the foreign correspondent for BrokenNewz.com and have a comic article about the fascist state of New Rome appearing tomorrow. Here's the URL:
http://www.brokennewz.com/worldnews/worldcourt.asp
Jim says:
Funny stuff William! Bravo! Keep up the
good work and let us know if you do any more about New Rome. There
are just so many angles you can laugh at them.
11:34am - Arthur sent up some ariel pictures he took of New Rome and I want to share them all with you!
10:32am - Brian sent us the following link:
Article - Former intern is suing 3 Akron officials
Brian Wolk wrote the book "Ohio Traffic Tickets Are For the Birds", subtitled "A Practical Defense Manual for Juveniles and Adults" and then he gets fired (or forced to resign as they put it). It's not really all that amazing when police abuse your rights, but when LAWYERS do it it really makes me wonder how they ever got their degree to practice law. Are they throwing the dice and hoping that the person will just take it and do nothing. Especially if the person worked for them and probably has some idea of how the law works.
Good luck Brian! I hope you nail the bastards
HARD!
10:24pm - Got this link from Michael ( michael@newromesucks.com )
Article - New Rome inspires legislation
This story looks promising till I got to the end where is reads:
"This would not be retroactive," Wolpert said. "It would not affect New Rome."
Why not draft into there that villages can't generate
more than 25% of their revenue from traffic citations or something?
This law doesn't do a damn thing for the cause of stopping this sort of abuse!
Oh well. So the battle continues!
6:38pm - Don't worry. I'm still here! I saw the new Star Wars. It was great! I saw an article in The Dispatch where he talks about New Rome and Star Wars. Check this out:
Article - IN A GALAXY ... -- OR WAS THAT A SATURN?
Very funny! I got a mail today from The National
Examiner wanting pictures for a New Rome story they are doing! How
awesome is that? New Rome in the tabloids! I'll be sure to keep
everyone updated on that.
3:05pm - Another Star Wars pic:
