Keep it up!

This letter may be a little off the beaten path.
However, I had no idea about New Rome until I saw the episode on 20/20.
I can tell you that to a truck driver the whole state of OHIO is New Rome.
With the split speed limits and sometimes zero
tolerance enforcement ( 1 m.p.h.over max ) it can be very stressful to drive
through the state on a day to day basis without worrying about paying fines
and collecting points on your CDL. I am very well informed on a truck
drivers view of the state but not quite sure how the motoring public feels
about it. I have seen on many occasions where motorists get very frustrated
and sometimes deadly in their attempts to pass a truck. To make a long
story short I think what your group has done is awesome. It's great
to see the public has taken a stand. I was wondering if somehow it
would be possible to gather thoughts and opinions of enough people on the
subject to do something to make it less nerve wrecking to drive a big truck
through the state of Ohio.
Thank you for your time
your shampoo carrier
[I agree, the split speed limits on our Interstates
(Trucks 55, cars 65) needs to go. Give the truckers a break!]
After watching the segment on 20/20 about this
corrupt town, I had to check
out the web site. As a tax paying, hard working American, I am
appalled by
what is going on there. I can't believe more
hasn't been done by county or
state officials.
I grew up in a small town and couldn't imagine that a police force and city
council could get away with such corrupt behavior. It sounds like they are
all pocketing money.
I hope the vote on Feb 4th goes your way. Then someone should hire
a lawyer
and file charges against all these "crooks".
I will be following this story. Good luck to all of you with this fight.
A supporter in New York.
Don
To Whom It May Concern,
I don't defend all police officers. In fact,
many of the officers I come in contact with on a daily basis do things that
I believe to be unethical, impolite, stupid and even illegal. I would
like to pose a couple of questions.
How many traffic fatalities does New Rome have each year in comparison to
similar size towns? How many traffic accidents does New Rome have each
year in comparison to similar size towns? Do you hear annoying radios
with profanity blaring or loud exhaust in New Rome? Do you have burglary,
rape, or assault problems in New Rome? Does out-of-towners come to
New Rome to ride around while drinking beer on smoking drugs? Why doesn't
someone complain about the city judge who has the power to dismiss any unlawful
citation?
[Okay. New Rome is smaller than most people understand.
12 acres of land, at least 1/4 of which is vacant. It's about
1000 feet long. That's .19 miles. There are eight houses, a few
apartments, and a number of commercial buildings. That's it. It's
hard to compare any stats when the sample is so small. Further, I don't
believe that NRPD's vigorous enforcement of non-moving violations on West
Broad Street does anything to promote law and order or safe roads within
New Rome's miniscule boundaries.]
As for as getting a warning, a driver is responsible to know the law and
to abide by it. If a driver does not do this, they should get a ticket.
It is a fact that active traffic enforcement reduces accidents, reduces injuries,
reduces fatalities, and deters all types of crimes because criminals fear
they will be stopped for a traffic violation and arrested for a greater crime.
The drug problems will go to another town. The burglaries and thefts
will occur elsewhere as well. THIS IS A FACT!!! These cops may
be going too far and they may be acting unprofessional, unethical, or even
illegal. I don't know! What I do know is that cops are complained
upon sometimes for just doing their job. Many times the complainant
doesn't even know much about being a cop. How would you like it if
someone who knew nothing about your job complained about the way you do it?
One more thing about warnings, people call and complain to my office because
of warning more often than they complain about citations. I don't know
why but it is a fact! As far as being arrested where you work for unpaid
fines, this is what I say. If you are guilty, pay the fine! If
you are not guilty, go to court! If you don't do either, you should
be arrested. It doesn't matter where a person is when they are arrested.
If they are at home, they will complain because it happened in front of their
family. If they are at work, they will complain because they are around
their co-workers. If they pay their fines, they don't have either problem!
New Rome may suck but there is a simple solution,
DON'T
GO THERE! Just live or visit another town, but keep this in
mind. There will be more crime and more traffic related property damage,
injuries and deaths!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
State Trooper,
Roy
[Come on Roy, be reasonable. To focus only on
safety leads to a gridlock in logic. New Rome occupies West Broad St.
in Columbus, US Highway 40, it's not in the backwoods, it's a major thoroughfare
on the outskirts of Ohio's capital.]
I'm from Cincinnati and I saw the story on 2020.
what a bunch of jerks. hope the election goes your way, GOOD LUCK!!!!
Buddy
I think New Rome is a very selfish town and they
shouldnt exist, too too many complaints.
May all the towns like New Rome Ohio be buried
alive by an earthquake.
It is nothing but total corruption by officials. Every state has at
least one such town. My wife and I were pulled off the highway in Texas
late one night and even though we had the car on cruise control set
Under the limit we were stopped and taken a mile off the highway by an
officer who LIED outright and forced to pay a fine. The officer were
turquise Indian jewelry and a Snake ring and Snakeskin cowboy boots.
This was right before Christmas and really ruined our Christmas...
This
was in
Montgomery County Texas...just north
of Houston... Best to your
site... Love it! Jon
LOL! GO GET EM! WASTE THE VILLAGE.
I do believe I'll miss ol New Rome when
I come down that way.
Lance
I, as a fellow citizen of the great State of Ohio
am shocked and appalled at what I
just seen on 20/20 tonight, we travel to Columbus often as we have family
within
10 miles of New Rome as of recently. We have notified them not to travel
anywhere near
New Rome, Ohio. And the long hair, bearded idiot I saw on TV...he needs
to wake up!
Rick
Hi I just seen the story on new rome sucks on 20/20.
my hat goes off to you . but i have to say the guy they interviewed
sucked big time. he was a board member. no wonder your village sucks
. people like him on it need to go...............................
keep up the good work.
Carol
Hey... I saw the story on 20/20 - I live about
30 miles from New Rome in Springfield Ohio... They are nothing more
then a bunch of rednecks !!
I support you !!
You might want to include
Starke, Florida in your comments. That place is
very much like New Rome. Best advice is to avoid. Local merchants will be
the
first ones hurt. Your councilman, shown on 20/20, certainly presented a fine
image of someone everyone ought to get to know. (Do you have any Dentists
in
town?)
Just wanted to tell you that Florida supports you!!
Just saw your piece on 20/20. Dissolve that town and those morons that
run it!!!
Mike
I'm watching your story right now. And I
feel sorry for every one of you's. And I wish you's win your case with
the New Rome police. My hope's go to all of you's.
Sounds like New Rome is quite the village.
I must say for a town that size and having 10-14 officers in outragious.
I live in a small town in Illinois (Diamond)...about 3,500 residents and
no PD. The council tried to get a PD (with good reason), but it was
our sheriffs department that convinced them not to. We span two counties...if
we need a officer to respond to something we get the closest out of either
the Grundy Co. Sheriffs, Will County Sheriffs (virtually non-existant), IL
St Police, Coal City PD, or Braidwood PD...We have a Interstate and a state
highway...We're doing just fine...they should to...so good luck with Prop
#4....hope you all get your way....
Bill
What a
rotten town
run by lousy people..... I'll make sure I don't come anywhere near it in
the future ...... keep up the fight.
First, I just want to say what a great job you are
doing maintaining the website.
Second, knowing that Jim can be a little shy, I just want to bring attention
to the fact that three people lead the effort to disband the vile slime pit
called mew rome: Jamie Mueller, Mayor; Ed Anthony, Council Member; and JIM
BUSSEY, creator of the website. They are ALL deserving of some kind of fantastic
award for what they are doing, but the Top Award should go to Jim Bussey.
His dedication and determination to expose every vile and illegal act of the
nrpd and council members has brought national exposure to this cause and
to the cesspool called new rome. He has been very honest in presenting actual
facts and case histories; he posts the idiotic comments made by brain-dead
new rome lovers (who, as we all know, are all related in some way); he has
been insulted by those who "believe" in new rome, yet he always maintains
his dignity and pose, is always honest and forthright.
Those of us who have been terrorized, victimized, abused and robbed by new
rome can never fully express our gratitude for all that Jim has accomplished.
It's just a matter of time when his goal will be complete - the end of new
rome.
Patsy
[Patsy is a New Rome Victim, the mother of our number
one Tale of Woe.]
I am just finishing up a 30 year career in the military. Been to a
lot of states and a few different countries. Most people, no matter
where I have been have some knowledge of the stink hole, New Rome.
Nearly everyone I've met from Ohio jokes about New Rome.
What an embarrassment to the country. I can
only imagine what Ohio is going through right now. When I do get back
home I will never drive through New Rome. Seems odd to have one police
officer per every ten residents. Kinda like an HMO. Each officer
should be assigned 10 residents. Why in the world would 24/7 coverage
be needed for three blocks? LMAO and so is the rest of the Country!
Ted
[Hopefully Ted, there won't be a New Rome to
drive through.]
This isn't a tale of woe, but more of a "food for thought".
Larry Cunningham, New Rome Police Chief, is paid $20,000 a year for his
services. He freely admits that he only works 8 hours a week.
8 hours a week times 52 weeks a year is only 416 hours. If you take
take that $20,000 pay check and divide it by 416 hours, then
Cunningham is being paid $48.07 per hour. Lets
look at this from another stand point. A full time police officer
(or any other 40 hour a week person), obviously works 40 hours a week.
40 hours a week times 52 weeks a year is 2,080 hours. If you take the
same $20,000 being paid to Cunningham and give it to the officer, that officer
would only make $9.62 per hour. Big difference between $48.07 and
$9.62.
I read in the online news today that there is an investigation under way
concerning the use of New Rome Police Department's LEADS computer.
This is the computer that is used to check license plates, driver license,
etc. and is NOT to be used for personal use. Apparently the Chief readily
admits using the computer to access information on a particular Council Member
and his family. The Chief states that this was an investigation, but
I think he would be hard pressed to prove this. Especially after the
Board of Elections has verified that the Council Member is legitimately elected
and therefore a resident of the Village of New Rome. By the way, misuse
of this computer IS a criminal offense.
Just my two cents worth.
YEA! ............. LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE "NEW ROME
SUCKS" CREW! Let me be one of the first for what I truly hope will
be many to congratulate you and your group!
I really appreciate you keeping me updated and sending me this e-mail
message. The "Village" of New Rome is a joke! Pardon my language
but New Rome has been nothing but a "pimple on the ass of the city
of Columbus" since I have come to this city! Although I have only lived
here about 10 years and thank God DO NOT live within the "Village" of New
Rome, soon after my arrival in Columbus people were telling me stories about
New Rome. I honestly thought they were kidding or pulling my leg.
After all how coould a city as large as Columbus have a so called "village"
in the middle of it or so close to the to yet have a group of people who
seem so "ass backward"and embroiled in a "family feud" almost like the "Hatfields"
and "McCorys". But sure enough shortly after I arrived here in the
city I was looking at news and saw what would eventually enlighten me about
the "village" and appears to be a continuing saga.
But it is nice to hear that the mayor and the rest of the stupid residents
of New Rome will make it on national TV. Unlike the the recent Ohio
State University national Championship win which the city could be proud
of, after the story airs on national TV about New Rome every resident of
New Rome should go hide under a rock!
I am not sure why someone hasn't approached the State sooner to see about
getting rid of this persistant "pimple on the westside"!
I wish you and your organization the best! I'm begging YOU and
members of your crew/group to PLEASE keep up your efforts until the "Village"
of New Rome exist NO MORE!
-Arthur
[Mayor Jamie Mueller ran on a platform to dissolve
New Rome -Michael]
I'm glad to see that your cause has moved in the
right direction.
If the vote dosn't work out, I wonder if ODOT would entertain the idea
of a "New Rome Bypass." By this I mean rerout Broad Street to go
around the jurisdiction of the NRPD. This really isn't all that unrealistic,
all it would take would be to annex a few properties. It happens
all the time. For example, in northern columbus, "Henderson Rd."
is a bypass for "Old Henderson Rd." If they did this to new rome,
they could then cul-de-sac or dead end both ends of the old portion of
Broad Street that goes through new rome. would force anyone who is going
to new rome to do so via "Beacon Hill Rd." This way everyone is happy.
New rome could exercise its right to exist, while the rest of the residents
of Franklin County would be free to casually drive down Broad Street with
out paying the New Rome toll. Without any thru traffic whatsoever,
the new rome police department would generate very little cash for the town.
The town then would not be able to afford pay their legion of police officers.
I think the only reason ODOT has not considered this is because one of
the properties that would have to be annexed is Prairie-Norton Elementary
School and it would be a large burden on the taxpayers of the Southwestern
school district to have to replace this building. But hey, I bet
this is one thing that the residents of the school district would not mind
spending their tax dollars on. They could then brag that their tax
dollars went to stopping the New Rome police. After all, these are
the same people who live around the village and it would be a small price
to pay to reclaim Broad Street.
-local resident
[I love this idea. Somebody get ODOT on the
horn...]
Jim, thank you for the e-mail. Please feel free
to send me anything regarding the end of the New Rome/Mayberry Police Dept.
I would be happy to be a part of the celebration party to the fall of New
Rome.
Thank you again.
Matt
If the Board of Elections Issued Subpoenas last
week about who does and who does not live in New Rome it must have looked
like a blizzard of paper work at the Bob and Nancy Chapman Hole in The
Wall. If everyone lived there that has used that address off and on the
past few years it would have to have more rooms then the Hyatt on Capital
Square. Well, maybe not since they all probably sleep together anyway. I
can't wait until New Rome is Dissolved and the Sheriff can really get into
past records if any will exist and I can bet you Larry Cunningham and Kerr
are burning up paper shredder after paper shredder getting rid of anything
they can get their hands on. Both these clowns have long deserved back seat
rides to 370 S. Front St. for years!
Thanks for the update, keep up the NEEDED work.
Now if the advocates of New Rome would disappear!
Definitely keep me updated! The first march
i didn't even realize was
happening, I just happened to be delivering the Westside Messenger and
ended up enjoying the
party. The second march I was out of town, so whether to celebrate the
demise of
hooterville or another rally, count me in!!
Hi again Jim-----got to wondering after I
wrote you---with all the attention and the publicity they have received
and now the expected T.V. special, are those %#$@^%&# still doing
their thing or have they backed off???
Good luck man
Russ
[If they back off, they don't get paid. -Michael]
I saw the story the other night where they
were
investigating the barber over his residency status.
I would guess that if you contacted the Ohio Highway
Patrol and requested a LEADS investigation into the
Police Chief's investigation, you would probably find
some LEADS violations with this.
LEADS is what we use to run license plates, OLN's and
entered people and articles. This is to be used for
"Official Law Enforcement Purposes Only" and I dont
thing the chief's investigation would qualify for this.
Paul
Keep up the good work, I an sure they are sure to bring about their own
demise.
[This was sent 3 days before the Dispatch article.
Great thinking Paul!]
I like this. I got a ticket there once. Put me
on the list
Thanks For The Update Hope To See You At The Party.
Thank you for the update. I read the Dispatch
regularly and always look for something about New Rome-best of luck to
you trying to do the right thing.
To Jim and the New Rome Sucks Crew:
Thank you for the update email. I want to join the celebration
party when
the hole that is New Rome finally gets filled in by the shi- balls who've
been running the place for so long. It should be the next biggest
party
to the Ohio State Buckeyes' national championship celebration!
Don't count on New Rome's voters to vote themselves out of existence
on
Feb. 4th. That would require some integrity, an unknown virtue
by those scum.
The multi-faceted approach is the way to go: 1) the Feb. vote; 2) the
civil lawsuit; and 3) the effort by Representative L. Wolpert to revise
the Ohio
Constitution so that their municipal status can simply be revoked without
their consent. I'm all for these efforts.
To Jim and the New Rome Sucks Crew, keep up the good work. I'll
be
watching ABC News 20/20 and cheering you guys on!
David
[Thanks David, great letter.]
I have read that the Board of Elections are trying
to determine who is and isn't a New Rome resident. Here are a few things
that possibly hasn't been considered as a way to aid in getting New Rome
dissolved.
1.) Boycott the business's within the village limits.
2.) Take pictures of the New Rome Towing Company's trucks parking on
the sidewalk and document that there is no enforcement of the trucks parking
on the side walk after notifying Barney that this is the case.
I would be willing to help with the picture taking on the condition that
this is an extremely discreet thing that happens. I am not afraid of the
pigs of New Rome, I just do my best work with no extra bs surrounding the
situation.
If you target the business's that are located within the village limits
and they suffer a financial loss it will cause a backlash towards the powers
that be.
Thank You
Dan
[Interesting thought. I used to visit the
auto parts stores or Dairy Queen in New Rome. I used to even drive
through on a regular basis. Then I sat and read Tales of Woe and decided
it's not worth it. Frankly, I don't know how the businesses survive
(besides the Towing Company, you know they've got a gravy train.) So
yeah, boycott everything in there. -Michael]
I'm going to have to fire-up the VCR and record
that 20/20 news show since
I work 2nd shift, that should be good. I always have been looking fwd.
to
the election in Feb. to have new rome dissolved, in the back of my mind
lately
I have been wondering if it will pass I think it will, but with new rome
involved who knows what they may try. It would be shear horror if the
vote
fails, and worse if a judge says new rome's traffic code is legal, and
tosses the suit out. This could take it back to square one. By all rights
the state of Ohio should have shut new rome down 20-30 years ago when
they
started, and not let a corrupt little town keep running. I won't believe
it till it's over. Here's hoping for no more new rome, and the biggest
party
ever.
Thanx, Thom
Best of luck to you and thank you for keeping the
dream alive.
-Ken
Congratulations on the results thus far of all
your hard work exposing New Rome for the crooked little hamlet that it is.
I expect to hear Nero fiddling in the background when the 20/20 story airs!
Gary
Thanks Jim!
Will be reading, watching, and waiting!
Yours truly,
Paul
Jim, any idea how good of a chance we have of seeing
it voted out? Maybe we should hold a fasting and prayer vigil somewhere.or
encourage people to fast and pray about this.
The
pinnacle of their stupidity was when they tried to get school records from
that one guy's grandkids. UNBELIEVABLE ! ! ! ! ! ! PAR FOR
THE COURSE...
Donna
[Yeah I'll be praying! Yes the grandkids
thing has upset more people that anything else I think... -Michael]
Just wondering; If that Gestapo in New Rome have
been writing tickets without the ordinances and code being in place;
does that mean that everyone they placed under arrest was
kidnapped? I wonder what is the statue of limitations on kidnapping?
Maybe even some civil rights violations, seems to me this bunch could all
end up in the cross bar motel if we had a prosecutor that had the necessary
physical attributes to investigate this.
[No doubt. We need some lawyers on this!]
New Rome seems a lot like Boxboro, MA, which is
about an hour from me. The police there are crackheads, they too
make stuff up and pull you over for it. One cop pulled a guy through
his open drivers window and arrested him for having a SQUIRT GUN in his
car. They'll pull you over for having a plate frame, bolts missing,
tags expired, lights burned out, hubcaps missing, going 0.5 over the 35mph,
etc, and they're all @$$holes. Unfortunately 495 goes right through
town. I nail the gas through there with the radar detector on full
blast to get through as quickly as I can when I do have to go through,
and I absolutely refuse to stop there for gas.
If I had the time/money I'd go down and march with you guys.
I can't even read the ToW's anymore, they enrage me.
Keep up the good work,
Cullen
[I agree. The Tales of Woe represent everything
this country doesn't stand for.]
That is GREAT news, thank you for sharing
it with me. Please keep me updated, I will make sure everyone
I know will tune into 20/20 to see how unjust New Rome is.
Corey
