Where oh Where is Daniel Plants the missing New Rome Council
Member?
Nancy Chapman says she has no idea. But wait isn't she his aunt, mother
in law cousin one or the other or all three since the inbreeding is so extensive
I vote for all three.

The Clerk is supposed to be sending him a notice since he has missed the
last couple of council meetings to his "last known address" I thought that
was the same as the Chapman's or is it actually on Binns Ave in the City of
Columbus like he tells the Columbus Police everytime he is arrested?

Can anyone help poor old Nancy find her missing relative and make sure he
attends one of New Rome's last meetings or has the first rat jumped the sinking
ship?

Hi, Nice site. I see that Lt. kerr is moonlighting for New Rome towing....do
you think that he just might be planning for his future? I know one thing
 for
sure I won't be using New Rome towing!!! [Ha,
good point; I'd rather push my car.  -Michael]
I wonder if he ever gave New Rome towing a ticket for parking
 too close to
the intersection? Look for yourself  at the way they park their wreckers
 within
a few feet of the intersection.

The "residents" of No Hope I mean New Rome,  will one day see the
light.   The light of the cruiser bearing down on your bumper and they
don't care if you are a resident or not.  You will get a ticket.
I have seen New Rome cruisers way out of their patrol areas.  They have
been as far away as the Hilltop on Broad street getting fast food.  If
New Rome collects $400,000 a year from fines, where
are the sidewalks, the public sewer system, the New Rome schools, and
last but not least, the municipal building.  They use a trailer!!! [It was condemned some years back. -Michael]
Why do they need 20+ officers to patrol a half mile of road? [Actually less than a quarter mile.]  When
a break in occurs, the Franklin county sheriff takes the report.  If
a domestic dispute happens, the Franklin county sheriff is called.  They
handle nothing but the ticket book.  Ask a New Rome officer when the
last time he had to get out of his cruiser and chase down a suspect.
Well one that wasn't speeding first anyway.  Now they want more unpaid
officers.  That should be a slap in the face of the paid officers.
Are they not issuing enough tickets that they need more officers?   I
have a child who attends school just outside of no hope, dang i did it again,
New Rome.  I avoid Broad street when ever I can. [I don't drive through New Rome---ever.]
They are right about New Rome towing severely violating the law by parking
their wreckers on the sidewalk and blocking the corners view.  NEWROMESUCKS.COM
RULES!!!!!  [Thanks!] One day when
they realize they were there for nothing, they will understand why everyone
bitched so much.    Mueller is trying
to do the right thing.    If New Rome stays around longer,
they could engage in some sort of anger management classes or business classes
to correctly post $$$$$$$$$ to the right account.  Not council members
accounts.  If you  want council members,  make them live in
New Rome instead of New Albany.  If they live there, they would see
the bull crap every day instead of once a month.  Losers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was pulled over by Westerville P.D. October 29th. I was driving my wife's

mini van. My wife's birthday is Oct. 6th.
Yep, you guessed it. The tags were expired.
The officer told me why he pulled me over and asked for license and proof
  of
insurance. No problem. (I was angry at my wife for forgetting).
Another crusier pulled up and joined him.
He went back to his cruiser, ran my license, came back to me and handed
 back
my license and insurance card. I was sure I was signing a ticket next.
 NOPE!
He instead said he wasn't going to write me up
and even gave me directions
to the nearest B.M.V. office to get tags, warning me that I better
  do it
soon, and wished me a good day! I shook his hand and thank him as he
was so
    nice.
Why can't New Rome be like this?
Thank you Westerville P.D.! And New Rome? YOU SUCK!
    -John

Michael says: Great story, John thank you!  Cheers
to Westerville Police.  I'll tell you why you won't see New Rome acting
decently like this...there's no money or fun in being reasonable or nice.

This is very unbelievable thing that New Rome Police does what
most regular police depts in Franklin County normally
don't do! It makes me real disgusted of the New Rome Police. Thanks
for
the bumper sticker and I posted it on my front door in Clintonville
to
let people coming to my front door take notice.

     Best Regards, David

Just saw the thing about the chief sending someone to check out the
grandkids.    That's Larry Cunningham to a T.  I still think you
need to do something to dig up the dirt on him in past years. I once worked
for him and New Rome, ( in my early and blind days as a police officer,
then I got smart).    I remember when he use to keep a room at the old
"New Rome Motel", long since torn down, and spent may night at it's bar.
If you had seen what when in and out of that room, you would laugh.
Anyone left that remembers other than me, about guns and money missing from
the department in 1980?   How about the under the table deals with the
old gun store that use to be next to the gas station?  How about the
DUI stopped with cash in their pockets, then take to Larry at the "station"?
He would tell us to leave them with him, we would never see them in court
or the paperwork again.   I know of one man that I stopped who had over
$1100 on him, I had a FCSO there with me when I was told to bring the guy
to the Chief, money and all.   I was later told by the man himself that
he "posted" a $1000 bond, and was let go.

Just about what I'd expect from New Rome.
Using children to intimidate.  New Rome Police Suck!!!

Hi you guys! I love the website. I'm just writing to see if you've ever
received e-mails about the terrible village of South Charleston, OH. If
you've never been there, don't. Like Mayberry, the cops do nothing else
but sit and wait to pull people over for any pathetic reason whatsoever.
The town's only grocery store has a one-way sign as you exit onto one of
the surrounding streets (although why is anyone's guess...that particular
street is not a one-way.) So they stopped me there one night for a half-hour.
Mere days later they stopped me again for a "rolling stop" in a street that
resembled a small alley. Once again, the cop took his good ole' time, complete
with laughing at me for getting pulled over. I'm sorry my story isn't about
NR but I'd just like to express my disgust for speed traps everywhere and
my hatred for the SC cops. Thanks for listening.

Hi Jim (and the New Rome Sucks crew),

Your web site is awesome!  I first heard of the plight of New
Rome last year,
when a friend of mine passed along a newspaper article that was in
a major
newspaper (USA Today, maybe?).  I don't remember which.
I did a search on
Google and found your site.  First Amendment, baby!  Good
 work!

I wanted to mention a couple of things to you.  First off, somebody
   wrote in
to your site on the page at
       http://www.newromesucks.com/readermail/readermail-8.html - I believe
 its the
third message down - mentioning NRPD's 450-MHz UHF radio frequencies.
   You CAN
get NRPD in trouble with the FCC if they are clearly making inappropriate
remarks on the air, etc.  It is quite easy, in fact.  I
am an avid radio
hobbyist, so I have dealt with matters like this before.  If
you want more
information regarding this, or want to know how to contact the FCC,
 visit
their Enforcement Bureau web page at http://www.fcc.gov/eb/.
If you need any
       more information, let me know.

Secondly, I'm thinking about making a run through New Rome with a
friend of
mine at 2 or 3 AM some morning at about 160 MPH.  I'd like to
see their
shitbox Ford Police Impersonators try to catch me.  Screw the
NRPD.     I am an
avid police car enthusiast, and own a 1994 Chevy Caprice 9C1 (police
 package)
       - former Texas Highyway Patrol car.  My friend, who is studying
 law
enforcement, has owned three of them in the past and is planning on
 buying
another one.  I'd like to see what those filthy pigs would try
 to do against
two squad cars - two BETTER squad cars.  Damn Fords suck.
 I'd be through the
whole damn town in about fifteen seconds.

Best of luck in getting that damn dump dissolved.  Post my message
   on your
page if you like.  I don't care.  Those so-called "police
 officers" in New
Rome are nothing more than two-bit rent-a-cops, and they make law
enforcement
professionals everywhere look bad.  What kind of a loser becomes
  a police
officer in NEW ROME, OHIO?!  There are so many better departments
  you could
work for.  They must have been the biggest REJECTS!  Probably
   failed out of
       the academy.

Oh, and if you want, you may include the links to my sites below if
 you want.
I'm all over the internet anyway. ;-)  I'm out-of-state, but
I lived in
Westerville, OH until 1992.  Let's see the shitbox NRPD touch
me.     BUST OFF,
RENT-A-COPS! HAHAHA!  When I smash through your town at 160,
you'll be seeing
       nothing but the tail lights!

Take it easy, chief.  Good job on your web site!

       Dennis

Michael says: Fun letter Dennis, thanks.
I have to put my disclaimer in that we don't condone blasting through
New Rome above the speed limit.

Having lived in Mount Sterling for nearly thirty years and known nearly
every officer, I can vouch that you do not get tickets for one mile over
the limit, two bolts on a tag, burnt out parking light bulbs, failing
to signal a right turn and other chicken **** items. That doesn't mean
you won't get stopped and get a warning, so don't consider Mount Sterling
to be a free-for-all.

You WILL get a ticket if you are ten or more miles over the limit
or ANY over the limit through the flashing 20 MPH lights immediately in
front of the school. One would have to be blind not to see those as they
are prominent and the cruiser is also parked plainly on the street in front
 of the school.

You WILL also get a ticket if you drive drunk, do drugs, steal, vandalize,
assault others, violate private property, have no license, run stop signs
or traffic lights at the two lights in town.  After a drunk driver
ran off Main street, up through a front yard and over a four year old
boy back in the '70s no OMVIs have been let off. They do not ticket for
running yellow lights (that's legal but New Rome considers it a ticket-able
offense).

We've shopped the west side for years as it is close, convenient
and the people are nice. However we do not venture to New Rome businesses
because it is simply too risky. I do not want to have to deal with the
hassle in case a license plate bolt fell off or a parking light was burnt
out. New Rome is just too expensive to shop.

New Rome has made the choice to bleed those who patronize their businesses
and we have made the choice to do business elsewhere and we support those
who want to close New Rome down as a municipality. Whining doesn't handle
the problem  but facing the facts and making choices and taking
actions to benefit ourselves does.

As Alisa so correctly says, " If you don't do the crime, than you
won't pay the fine." New Rome is now being "ticketed" for its excesses
and illegal actions so she has no reason to whine about the consequences.

        HAGD,

        Paul

I just want to add that I agree that New Rome Sucks.  We live
in Hilliard by Meijer and try at all costs to avoid coming through New
Rome when heading down to Broad Street.  However, if we do venture
through the town of Barney Fyfes,  it is a certain fact of life that
that they will be lying in wait along West Broad like snakes lying in the
grass just waiting to attack.   I feel for all of those who have been
harrassed by the one toothed wonders.

Thanks for putting up the website.  It has long been a sore
subject here and it's nice to laugh a little at a pretty serious situation
of complete abuse of power.  How this has been able to continue for
so long is beyond me.  Hopefully, with the media involved and enough
attention, New Rome cops will get what they deserve.

         Sydney

Hi Jim. The correct frequency to listen to the New Rome is 453.925
 & 458.925.
458.925 is used more often. I listen regularly.  From time
to time, they make "sexual" innuendos ("I'll take care of you later",
"I sure hope so") I would love to place a loud speaker on Norton &
Broad broadcasting their inept transmissions.I have family that are law
enforcement officers. These morons are an utter disgrace to REAL "Peace
Officers". Has anyone though of calling the FCC to monitor their radio
protocol usage?

         I have 2 small requests:
         1) Using Mayberry and Barnie. Not fair to the sitcom. Andy exhibited
professionalism and down right damn good guy appeal
to me as a child. Barnie was just goofy. Neither of them were anywhere
near as dishonorable and disgusting as the NRPD.
I know, I know, the use of "Mayberry & Barnie" to mean hillbilly
town and residents. New Rome is a disgrace to Hillbillies
         & small towns.
         BTW I'm from NYC.
         2) If we can get real Police Officers to help us (and themselves)
out, it would be great. I would like to URGE ALL REAL
FRANKLIN COUNTY & CPD OFFICERS TO DRIVE THROUGH NEW ROME
(OFF DUTY IN CIVILIAN CLOTHES)AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. IF THEY GET PULLED OVER
ILLEGALLY, PERHAPS THEY CAN FLASH A BADGE AND TELL THEM JUST WHAT THEY
 THINK OF THIS DISGRACE!
New Rome IS in Franklin County, don't the Franklin County Deputies
have authority to arrest someone there?

I've been in Lincoln Village since 1986. I REFUSE TO BUY ANYTHING
IN OR NEAR NEW ROME!! IF THEY WANT MY BUSINESS, STOP THEIR "POLICE" DEPT
 FROM HARASSING THEIR CUSTOMERS.
NEW ROME BUSINESSES MUST BAND TOGETHER AND HELP PUT AN END TO THIS.

         Larry

ps As far as I'm concerned, NRPD and those SWORN,PROVEN & PROUD
  THIEVES OF THE TOWN COUNCIL,
are worst than the FILTHY TERRORISTS THAT ATTACKED OUR COUNTRY.
THEY ARE AN EMBARRASSMENT
         TO THE USA.

Michael says: Thanks Larry for your strong
opinions.    As for using the Andy Griffith characters, we're trying
to just provide some comedy and levity from an otherwise serious subject.
We've also compared NR to the cops from the Dukes of Hazard, which
  is probably more fitting.

Long Long time reader, first time writer... I got the info
from the front page Plain Dealer article ran a while back up here in Cleveland.
I totally feel your plight, but I'm afraid I really don't have anything
more to say than has already been said time and time again (occasionally
quite elegantly) on your site.  The place is a corrupt cesspool of
society that needs to be consigned to the annuls of 7th grade Ohio Studies
class.   I have friends that I go visit occasionally in the Columbus/New
Albany area that tell me the whole issue is quite the hotbed of talk and
controversy down there.  I'm just glad that, as a young guy with a sporty
car and 10 points on my license, I never ventured through there unwittingly.

I did want to let you and your readers in on
a similar ticket mill that you may be aware of in the Cleveland area.
     Linndale, Ohio, occupies approx.
850 yards of I-71 going into Cleveland, but as I drive through there each
and every morning there is, quite literally, a cop running radar underneath
the bridge over 75% of the time.  3/4ths.  Same percentage when
I come through in the evening.   Its ridiculous.  I once received
a speeding ticket in Linndale, forgetful at the time of watching my speed.
My sister once was pulled over there as well, but was let go with a
warning when the cop proceeded to tell her that he (or the city) couldn't
issue tickets at the time because they were under investigation from
the state for financing too much of their city revenue with traffic tickets!
The guy even laughed at it with her!  Apparently there was so little
real police work for the guy to do that he was relegated to warning people.
In any event, slow down through Linndale, or bypass it altogether.
Take I-77 into Cleveland if possible.  Ohio Highway Patrol is on
the lookout, but luckily much more sparingly that the 75% I see every day
going through Linndale.

It's a self perpetuating system that is continually
worsening, especially in Ohio.  I know people who travel consistently
that say avoid Ohio or be on the alert at all costs.  Automobile
magazine in a recent article said that cruise control is a necessity when
driving through the state because Ohio is "cop-dense".  No wonder
two of the world's leading radar detector manufacturers, Valentine and
Escort, are headquartered right here in Ohio.

          John

I must say I am a HUGE fan of your website. I am a radio news announcer
in Bucyrus, which is about an hour north of Columbus. While searching
online for news one day, I happened to find out about your site. So I
checked it out. I couldn't believe that this New Rome thing was really real!
Are people in this state that hillbilly? So I read your Tales of Woe, as
you have so aptly called them, and I truly believe that what you are fighting
for is right. Every once in a while, I'll add a little New Rome scandal
to my newscasts just to spice them up a bit. I was actually even planning
to come down for your second march, but I got tied up that weekend. I'm
glad that it was successful. That type of government was what we tried to
get out of when we fought for our freedom in World War II. We don't need
another Gestapo, KGB, or anything like it. If you guys have another march
or rally or anything of that sort, let me know. I'd really like to cover
the demise of New Rome! Keep up the good work!

           Mary

I do not have a tale of woe but would like to add
my feelings to this New Rome mess.  I just read in today's Dispatch
the recent going-ons in this one-horse town.

I am simply amazed as to how Nancy Champman can hold on as much
as she has.   This self-appointed councilwoman should have been
fired for slapping the other woman.  This action would certainly
have gotten an elected official "fired" from their position much less
a self-appointed one.   How on god's earth can a councilwoman have
greater powers than the "elected" Mayor.  She seems to be the one
who has the most to say and storming out of a meeting shows just how ignorant
this woman really is.  How childish and this attitude seems to be
what is running this one-horse town.    After reading all the
Dispatch stories and reading the Tales of Woe, I simply do not understand
how this has gone on for as long as it has.  The "elected" officials
who do not do anything to help dissolve this town, should be remembered
 at the next election.

The arguing and carrying-ons in this one-horse town seemed to
be kinda of funny and made great reading but when it comes to assulting
someone, then this seems pretty serious to me.  Who does this woman
think she is.   She should have never been able to sit as councilwoman
after that and been fired at the least.

It is time to get these bullies out-of-town, NOW not LATER.
I support everything the "elected" Mayor has done and he should be given
  a medal of some sort.

           ann

this  site rocks !

Can't someone, someplace at the local, state, federal level do
something to disban or get rid of New Rome?  This "village" is NOT
really serving any useful purpose to Franklin county, any of the westside
residents or any of the residents of the surrounding area, or the citizens
of the state of Ohio!  You NEVER hear anything positive about New
Rome!  It appears as if this "village" is perdominately a bunch of
family members causing trouble and embarrassement for the westside.
If I lived there I would to embarressed to let anyone know where I lived.
It seems the "village" just exist to give out speeding tickets!

            Arthur

I was just wondering what the deal is now
with contesting a ticket in New Rome. Isn't New Rome a mayor's court?
Shouldn't it be easier now to fight a ticket with a mayor that favors
dissolution? I was just wandering. I lived on Gladys Rd. just East of
New Rome from 1989 to 2000. I knew early on to stay the hell out of there.
My neighbor was actually ticketed for 37 mph in a 35 mph zone. When he
told me about it I told him he was full of shit and he showed me his ticket.
I couldn't believe it. What can I do to help dissolve this farce?

            Michael says: Interesting point.  Although
technically a "mayors court", the old-guard village council opted to
hire an outside magistrate to preside over traffic court in New Rome.

Dear Jim,  i have just finished checking out
your web site for the 2nd time and i feel more than compelled to let
you know that i fully support your actions to bring down this ineptitude
of a government. I have lived in Parry Township for almost 30 years and
i am astonished that they have been allowed to continue their evil, corrupt,
and self-serving ways for as long as they have!! I myself received a ticket
there many years ago when i "allegedly" ran a red light (which had actually
just turned from green to yellow shortly after i had already crossed the
stop line). Jim, there is a harsher and more correct term that accurately
describes the New Rome Police Department, and that term is..... COMMUNIST!!!
I wish you all the luck in the world, Sir, in your effort to dissolve this
government of greedy, inbred, pocket-lining, gutless group of thieving,
coniving, council members and cowardly, criminal, rent-a-cops. DEATH TO
COMMUNISM!!!!!!!!!!! -Rick

            Hi, Jim  !

To begin with, we have something in common--my name is also Jim...James
MacGregor Martindale.   My hometown is Altoona, Pennsylvania, and
I'm here in Columbus temporarily.   I've just read through about half
of your web-posted Tales of Woe, and a major question keep flappin' back
at me.  Here it is:   WHY DOESN'T ANY OF NEW ROME'S TICKET-VICTIMS
APPEAL THEIR FRIGGIN' TICKETS???  I mean appealing them to a REAL court,
presided over by a REAL judge, one who actaully holds a LAW DEGREE!!!

I was told that you can do this by a Municipal Court judge named Douglas
Bennett in Athens, Ohio.  I had a couple of run-ins with the hillbilly
Athens cops while I was finsihing up at Ohio University, and that's
how I met Judge Bennett.  He is firm, but seems fair.  He
told me in plain English that "you can appeal  any Mayor's Court
ticket to the next higher court without any reference to the fact that
you were "found guilty" by the Mayor's Court.
One of your "Tales of Woe" contributors stated "My wife is an
attorney."       Well, any attorney should know this if Judge Bennet
in Athens does, fer cryin' out loud!!!   I do believe that
when you inform the Mayor's Kangaroo Court that you're appealing,
they demand a cash bond be posted before they will pass the case upwards
to the next highest court.  I DON'T know if they really have the legal
authority to do this, however--it just seems like a sneaky way for the
Mayor's Court to get their fine money "in advance" in case the appellant
loses in the higher court..the Mayor's Court already has their clutches
on your money, see?   Check with your attorney on this--surely you
must have one.     If the info checks out, post it on your site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                      I've driven
thru new rome a couple of times, years ago, without incident--but after
what I read today (Sunday, 18 Aug 02) in your T.O.W. section, I'm never
goin' NEAR the friggin' place!  I'll find a detour!!!
                      Keep up
the good work, Jimbo.  I'm a retired military man and I salute
you and your web site!

            Michael says:  We're getting a
LOT of reports about  New Rome stonewalling when people try to
get their tickets transferred to Franklin County. We're not dispensing
legal advice, but I would like to hear more on this subject.

Just to drop a quick note, im a police officer in a small village
   in NE
ohio. I just wanted to say to keep in mind that not all police
 officers or
departments are this way. Our village generated less than $10,000
   from
traffic enforcement last year. Revenue from fines/traffic enforcement
     are
NOT our priority. I feel sad that this department is giving
law
enforcement a very bad name. Finally, I believe that traffic
enforcement has its time
and place. The Ohio State Highway Patrol purpose is traffic
enforcement.
ie. traffic accidents, traffic related arrests(DUIs/Driving
Under
Suspensions)and citations. Im positive they generate ALOT of
revenue but I
haven't found the OSPsucks website yet!! Good luck! ryan

This e-mail is not a "tale of woe" but I wanted to drop you
a line to let you and others know that I am 100%  in  support
of your efforts!!!!     I was totally unaware there was a website
dedicated to the "Village" of New Rome but the name of the website fits
the "Village" perfectly because the whole village SUCKS big time!
I was read an article in the Columbus Dispatch about this "village"
again (when will the saga just STOP! ) and found out about your website,
yeah for the Dispatch!!!    The Dispatch article was about the "bickering"
that broke out at ANOTHER recent "village" town meeting.  I must
admit that I am not 100% familiar with all the circumstances and history
behind New Rome but it seems like this village exist for no GOOD reason
other than to give out speeding ! tickets!   Why does a city the size
of Columbus need a "New Rome" village in/near it anyway?  It's appearent
that this "village" serves NO real USEFUL purpose to the City of Columbus
or any of the adjacent munciipalities on the westside.   What little
money the "village" gets from speeding tickets doesn't seem to justify
it's exisitence.  It seems to me they spend more money writting speeding
tickets and "bickering" at "village" town meetings that little else gets
done in the village.  From the article in the Dispatch it appear the
majority of the people on the village counsel are either all family or related
to someone on the counsel.  Can't someone at the state or city level
step in and just "break up" the village and incorporate it into the City
of Columbus or another larger municipality on the westside/near westside
that is better organized and more civil and! has more to do at city/village/town
meetings than to argue CONSTANTLY over stuff that really doesn't amount
to a "hill of beans" to the rest of the community!  Has New Rome EVER
held a "village" meeting where some kind of argument didn't break out?
........... NO! If it's not the mayor they are arguing about, it's someone
the mayor appointed or didn't appoint, money that has been mis-spent or
mis-appropriated.     GOSH, MAKE IT GO AWAY!!!   NEW ROME SUCKS!!!
I am so tired of New Rome!  Can't it just all go away!  It's
the actions of a few that is making ALL of them look VERY  BAD along
with the state and City of Columbus!!!!!  It's amazing here is a
bunch of adults acting like a bunch of kids!

I have read your entire site and find the corruption appalling.
Why not invite the entire chapter of Hells Angels to drive through
New Rome by circling the entire area with 100's of cyclist all doing
the legal limit for 48 hours, post detour signs ( baricades) appropriately
for alternate traffic to use. If that doesn't seem like a good idea,
then perhaps a convoy of 18 wheelers with signs on the trailers with each
officer's name and council member's name as being the reason for the traffic
etc. Properly organized, it could get national coverage via live feed on
MSNBC and CNN..... Signs should read "Audit New Rome's Books", and make
the Village Incorporation subject to the new Federal corporation audit
laws and shut it down under the RICO act. Hold a public auction of all
the assets ( patrol cars, radios, etc. ) freeze the bank accounts and
bring in a team of IRS auditors to examine each individual bank account
and the Village Books.

Basically, overwhelm the infrastructure of this corrupt little
red necked operation with Red Tape, legal scrutiny, and attention. As
a last resort, hold a ballot referendum to build a bypass around the
3 block route and condemn the road they occupy, posting a legal (permanent)
 detour.

Good Luck. J L., Charlotte, NC

As an "out-of -stater" I can't offer much other than an "all
hail ye warriors".    Good luck and I'll be eagerly watching the Columbus
Dispatch for the announcement of the fall of the New Roman empire. This
effort has to be sucking the energy out of some mighty good folk.
Hang in there.   Fitz in WV

the more newspeople get the wind of the new rome sucks website, the more

in the country
and make them look at themselves policing the way they do and
 change
something to make it look better. new rome sucks even more

saying it is for the child's safety........hogwash.....speed

I read a bunch of the stories listed on newromesucks.com.
       4 years ago, I
moved from Hilliard, to Round Rock, TX.  I still like
to keep in touch
with folks in the Columbus area and a friend of mine turned
me on to your site.

Although I don't have a tail of woe to tell you...never got
stopped in New
Rome when I lived in Hilliard, I sympathize with all of you
there.        I am
against corruption in all its forms and you can count me as
one of your
              supporters.  Keith

Hey Jim. I don't know how upset other police officers are about the police
tactics in New Rome, but if they think that NRPD is making cops look
bad, you may get some area cops to come. Maybe a short letter to area
PDs explaining the need to oust the corrupt cops of the land and the
mess of a city council they have over there. I would really like to
go to the city meetings. When and Where are they? Please keep up the
very good work.  Jeff

Michael says: The New Rome council meeting is
the first Tuesday at each month.  30 Maple Street in beautiful
uptown New Rome.  We recommend parking in the township and walking
in.  The meeting lasts until Nancy Chapman gets upset.

Hello!!

I really think that the best service that you could provide
on your web while is a detailed map of EXACTLY where this hell hole is
located and how you could avoid driving on any of its streets.
Another GREAT service would be the listing of all places of business
located in New Rome so that we could boycott and avoid them!!

              Thanks for the site!!!!  George

              Michael says: Good idea.  Working
on this.     Though some businesses like Ed's barber shop are behind
the effort to dissolve New Rome.

I have read the pieces in the paper for the past year or so
on New Rome.
The very fact that this city exists is a monument to nepotism,
  greed, and
downright dishonesty.  It appears the only reason the
city government
exists is to line the pockets of the "police" and the city
council.
I was appalled to learn that a "chief of police" makes $20,000
  per year
for half a days work per week (this works out to $96-$100 per
 hour!!)
Surely there is a way to dissolve the township and end this
sham!!!

My 10 year old son just recently returned from
a vacation in Florida
with a classmate.  He was in FL during the time that Wyandot
   Lake had the
chlorine problem.  Upon their return, the other parent
said "Look, I
have to show you what was in the Fort Meyer paper".  I
asked him if it was
about Wyandot Lake.  No, it was about New Rome and all
the problems they
have.  My son went 18 hours away by car and still couldn't
  get away from
the stories.  It's like he never left.

              Kellie

wow.

A very interesting site, to say the least. A lot of passion
involved to be
              sure.

I was a NR cop 24 years ago. Even then, it had a bit of a reputation,
     but
it was a busier place, actual police work (nightly fights at
 Nancy Ann's -
is it still there?), the strip bar across the street, a few
other places
(I can't remember any more) besides writing tickets. I was
young, it was my
first police job and I was proud.

I was only there a year and moved on to another Department
in Franklin
County and eventually retired. Since moving to Massachusetts,
 I've kept
tabs on the outrageous goings-on, mainly through the Dispatch
 and family.
I'm sorry to see things have deteriorated so much. When I visit
  my kids
and grandkids, I try to stay out of the place now too. It *is*
  a shame the
              place still exists

And I'm really surprised Larry Cunningham is still around.
With his spotty
past, I thought he had stayed out of the lime-light, but I
see that isn't
              the case.

              Good luck with your crusade.

              Robert

              Michael says: Thanks Robert.
I think it's safe to say that starting a career in law enforcement
with New Rome today would be permanent RESUME STAIN.   "You uh
worked WHERE?"

I recently found your web site about New Rome.
In my dealings in the state of Ohio (which I don't live there any
longer) I believe if you look hard at state law, it requires a sign
one fourth of a mile before a speed limit can be reduced.  In
New Rome's case they don't have that distance and would have to seek
permission from the county or the township to post such a sign.

I believe if you ask any state highway patrol officer or just
drove around you will notice such signs.

Ohio is one of the few states that has such a law, if I am
correct.

Good luck and if I am in Ohio the next time you are having
a march count me in...

              Tom

Michael says: Yes the law requires
the signs.   I can't quote Ohio Revised Code, but there has been
some suggestion that New Rome's speed limit reduction signs (which
are in the township) may be too close to where the speed limit drops.
The approach distance is designed so that a motorist can lift
their foot off the gas pedal and coast down to the new speed without
braking.  Nobody ever said New Rome designed a perfect speed trap.

 Jim,
As a former resident of Columbus (23 years ago) think this
is one of the
funniest sites going. Keep up the good work.

I used to live in New Rome a long time ago [in the 40s ] and
always thought of it as a nice place to grow up in.
I recently returned to Ohio and started reading about New Rome
in the dispatch. What a surprise!
Sounds like you people need some vigilante justice out there.

I have been wanting to drive out to New Rome just to look around
for as much as I can remember but after reading all this I believe
i'll wait until the gestapo is gone. I hope it's very soon.
