Jim reports that tonight's New Rome village council meeting was a flurry of activity!  State Auditor Jim Petro presented his report to the council, stating that the village serves no purpose, has seen huge amounts of money stolen, and should be dissolved.  Nancy Chapman continually tried to interrupt, but Petro pressed on!

Under duress, the council passed the ordinance to place the issue on the ballot.  Thanks to Dreama for scanning in the court judgement that made this possible. The citizens of New Rome will get to vote on whether their "leaders" should surrender their municipal powers!

We would like to announce the formation of the Committee to Dissolve the Village of New Rome .  The committee is asking for donations to help in the very important campaign that could rid the West Side of the menance of New Rome forever.   If you have the means, please give something so they can get the word out and get New Rome shut down!

Here's an update on the special election to decide New Rome's future.  Sounds like we won't know soon!

Here's a piece on the ticketing racket that is rampant across the country.  If only 10% of people contested tickets rather than paying the waiver, wouldn't the justice system grind to a halt? Unconstiutional At Any Speed  It has a couple good ToW's from New Rome as well.  Here's an earlier article that focuses just on New Rome! When in (New) Rome .

Thanks to David for catching this column. Police stifling free speech in Gahanna   A great read about the Gahanna PD, with a nice jab at New Rome.

Another reader, PJ wants to share with everyone a warning about a potential new small-town speed trap.  It seems that tiny Harrisburg (far southwestern Franklin County) has annexed a section of  Routes 3/62.  Corporation signs went up last Wednesday, and the cops were writing tickets the next day.  PJ tells us that they only have a 650 foot sliver of the highway.  The mayor is trying to get the speed limit reduced from 55 to 45 mph.

I would urge anyone that gets a ticket through there, and has the means to do so...get a lawyer.  Make Harrisburg justify their annexation, their speed limit, and their tickets.  Guys, you can't just stick signs in the ground and make a law.  There's more to it than that.

Lots going on!  A number of articles about New Rome have hit the presses this week.  Check out this one , that features a nice shot of our banner at the march. Here's some good coverage from Channel 4 .  They have a posting board and a survey on whether or not to dissolve the village.  And of course the Dispatch details the latest court ruling on New Rome's special election to dissolve the village.  Won't that be interesting?  Who wants to bet Patty, Davey and Richey will find some way to make it to THAT vote!

Our march commander sent this in:

"Commander OPOC"  (One Pissed Off Chick)  would like to thank all of the
demonstrators who fearlessly followed me into battle at the Second March on
New Rome. Your courage and commitment to the cause are admirable.
Recruits, you make me proud!

Commander OPOC would also like to thank the New Rome police officer who
"flipped me the bird" when my back was turned. You may think you fooled me
with your childish antics, but you forget that OPOC has eyes in the back of
her head.  Too bad you don't have the balls to openly flip me off to my
face, girly-man.  That would have been refreshingly honest - oops, I almost
forgot - honesty is not a concept that New Rome could every comprehend.
Perhaps you meant to upset me with this gesture, but you actually gave me a
good laugh. Why, you ask? Because it just proves the following:

     1) You have no class (as if we didn't already know this)
     2) You have no self-control
     3) You exhibit classic examples of passive-aggressive behavior
(translation: you are an asshole,  but you are too scared to do it openly)
     4) You wusses can dish it out, but you sure can't take it !!
     5) I must have really pissed you off, and that pleases me immensly.

Again, thanks to the Marchers and March supporters. See you at the next
one!

Best regards
Commander OPOC

Another day...and, oh!  What's this?  The New Rome village council member are acting like children again.  What a surprise.  Here's the latest from the Dispatch, New Rome Disputed Headed to Court .  Late word is that the old guard council members no-showed at this morning's meeting.

Posted by Michael on 8/21/02

New Rome council members, this is getting old.  Read the Dispatch's report on what happened last night at the special village council meeting.  As usual, everyone was too busy to attend.  Too bad the NRPD isn't too busy to show up for work.  So let's get this straight.  New Rome is OCCUPIED by an outside police force that robs citizens of grocery money for such offenses as obscuring the county sticker on their license plate.  This Gestapo is run by an out-of-county police chief, and the kangaroo "mayor's" court is presided over by a hired magistrate.  Then, the village council doesn't care enough about the town to attend the official meetings. Instead, they'll hang out at Chapman's pad to discuss legislation, thus bolstering their grip on their weed infested scrap of Prairie Township. Isn't it time for this to end?

The letters to the editor keep coming.   This one is pretty clever.

Jim talked to John Corby on 610 today at about 4:10pm.  Great interview!  Thanks to Corby for his continued support to eliminate the "fiefdom" of New Rome.

A supporter sent us another picture.

Another police empire building?  Take a look at this story about Clinton Township.  Just 1.6 square miles and 4500 residents.  The police force has tripled in the past sixteen months to 66.   Here's the article.

Another day, another letter to the editor takes a well-deserved but unprovoked potshot at New Rome.  Seeing this sentiment from the community week after week just makes me grin.  Click here to read it.

Dreama scanned in the National Examiner article for us!  Jim actually took the pictures they used!  This was available on the newsstands in mid-July.  Click on the thumbnail to see the full version:

This is Nancy and Charles Chapman's New Rome residence.  Nancy is a council member and Charles is the former mayor. Nancy is the woman seen storming out of the New Rome village council meeting on Tuesday.  She got in Ed Anthony's face when he tried to deliver the petition to let the voters decide New Rome's fate.  After the meeting, she slapped fellow resident Jeanne Frazier over her support to dissolve the village. This picture is dedicated to everyone thats had a bad neighbor:

psycho .

Here's Jeanne's exact account:

I don't know if your remember but, I met you at the March in March.  And I also see you at all the council meeting.  Well at last nights councils meeting Jamie announced that he was trying to appoint me to council.  Anyway......

I just wanted to let you know, that when I went home last night, which I am so lucky enough to live across the street from Nancy (satan), she was waiting outside for me.  She she slapped me and opened my car door and tried to get me to get out of my car.  It was in todays dispatch.  Thought you might like to know.

But I am pressing charges.  It's that great!!

10:12pm.  Quite a day!  Posted a lot of new Reader Support and Tales of Woe so check them out.  We'll be adding more stuff soon so please check back.  The video of Nancy Chapman storming of the meeting really bothered me.

Nancy dear: If you aren't willing to adhere to the processes that are in place in your village, the state of Ohio, and the United States then you need to step down, pack your things, and move to Saskatchewan.  New Rome isn't your little toy to play with on your terms and then take with you when you get upset.  Grow up. Oh, and save the smokes for after the meetings.

6:55am.  Good morning folks.  Two great articles in this morning Dispatch to share with you.  The first in an excellent article detailing last night's New Rome council meeting.   TEMPERS FLARE IN NEW ROME .  The other article is about a very brave young lady that is standing up to the New Albany Police Department.  I would really expect better from New Albany but I guess hothead cops are everywhere.
CLEARED BY JURY, SHE SUES POLICE.

10:03pm.  Haven't heard from Jim on tonight's meeting yet, but his wife Dreama has finished a new song about New Rome!  Here it is...

NEW ROME VILLAGE CROOKED WAY
As sung to the tune of Harper Valley P.T.A. by Tom T. Hall

I want to tell you all a story ‘bout a little village called New Rome
Who had a reputation of corruption and a traffic ticket zone
Well, Jim Bussey drove through one afternoon and didn’t even see the sign
He didn’t know what hit him when he heard the NRPD siren whine

Well, the cop said Mr. Bussey you’re driving well over 35
We’ve reported you’ve been speeding to the DMV and now you’ll pay the fine
And we don’t believe the signage here is something that New Rome should discuss
We are only 3 blocks long and Ohio laws do not apply to us

Well, it happened that the council was gonna meet that very afternoon
And they were sure surprised when Mr. Bussey wore his
New Rome Sucks shirt ‘to the room
And as he walked up to the mayor I can still recall the words he had to say
He said, “I’m here to help you make this little New Rome nuisance go away.”

Well, there’s Robin Spangler sittin’ there defending New Rome’s credit till the end
Richard Plants doesn’t say much but will always stick behind his cousin
And Mr. Beagle can you tell us why the former court clerk had to leave this town?
And shouldn’t Roger Kerr be told to sign his tickets Lieutenant Bozo the Clown?

Chief Cunningham couldn’t be here ‘cause he put a whole 4 hours in again
And if you ask Nancy Chapman’s sister you’ll find she’s the ex-mayor’s next of kin
And then you have the nerve to charge me for a bogus crime that I did not commit
Well, this is just 3 blocks of wasted space and I’m the one who’s gettin’ rid of it

Now New Rome is getting nervous ‘cause we’re doing an extensive exposé
The day Jim Bussey socked it to the New Rome Village crooked way
The day Jim Bussey socked it to the New Rome Village crooked way

The ballot initative to dissolve New Rome should be on this November's ballot!  Now's the time to rally!  Please plan on attending the march on the 17th!   Jim will be attending tonight's meeting, so expect a full report tomorrow!

10:17pm  Here's an article from today's Dispatch on the tales of two Ohio villages that are moving toward dissolution.  Both are substantially bigger than New Rome.  I hope the residents of New Rome put it to a vote soon!   Future uncertain for pair of villages  (As with all Dispatch articles, registration on their site is required.)
