12:54pm - Meeting

There was suppose to be a special meeting last night at 6pm, but the old guard didn't show up.  Imagine that.  They did hand out an agenda though and there was a topic about hiring a new solicitor.  I, being the ever helpful one, said I would be happy to take the job.  While I lack legal education I am cheap!

I also suggested we have the meeting anyway and some of the people in the peanut gallery could pretend to be council members.  Again that is how the old guard would have done it.  I guess those days are gone!  I bet we could have moved the meeting to Nancy's garage! Then everyone would have shown up!

After 10 minutes it was decided to cancel the meeting.  I guess there is always April's meeting and of course the march!

Tomorrow I go to the Senate and give my testimony in support of SB 25.  This bill is the same as HB 24 which gives judges the ability to dissolve corrupt villages.

2:48pm - WTVN

Yesterday was a good New Rome bashing day.  Had brunch with some the New Rome Sucks Crew (Michael, Dreama, Shana, and Patsy) and we talked about the upcoming march in April and decided to make some more changes to the layout of the web page.

After that meeting was over my wife and I met up with more New Rome Haters for dinner.  After dinner we went to the 610 WTVN station and spent 2 hours bashing New Rome with Cornell McCleary.

Here we are having fun!

9:55am - Law Suit

A link to the Lawsuit (Document 1 and Document 2) as filed with the court.  Good reading!  Keep up the good work guys!

7:45am - Good morning!

Our friend Steve Stephens wrote an article in The Dispatch

Lawsuits seek to remove several New Rome officials

Always a pleasure to read his work!  I'm so looking forward to this going to court!

I'm also going to speak at the State House again on March 19th.  This time it's to the Senate.  I'm going to get an ulcer with all this public speaking!  Ahh well...it will be worth it.

WCOL 92.3 is also having their a St. Patricks Day march in New Rome soon.  I'll post details when I have them.

I would like to thank everyone for their continued support of New Rome's demise.  We are also looking for fun pictures!  If you have a picture you would like to submit that mocks New Rome in some way please send it over!  I'll be happy to post it for all to see!

Also thanks to everyone who spreads the word to friends through bulletin boards, email, radio, newspaper, tv, and word of mouth.  The key to bringing this kind of issue under control is by spreading the word.

The Car and Driver article is now available on their website.  We're getting a lot of mail again, and I'm working to get it up.

For more fun check out WCOL's New Rome Song on their page.  It's great!

I have a great story from Mick to share with you, I put it under Reader Support Mail rather than TOW since it's a victory.  Maybe we need a new section!

Everyone be sure and Check out the April issue of Car and Driver magazine! There's a huge story on New Rome!

Today I presented testimony to support House Bill 24.  Talk about new experiences.  I only hope I didn't look at nervous as I felt.  I never would have thought things would go this far.  I'm no public speaker!

The meeting ran over and my hour ran out so I got a nice parking ticket to pay for my efforts.  Ahhh how I love it!  I guess I'll put it up as money towards New Romes downfall.

All in all things went well.  Jamie, Ed, and Jeff Nourse all went before me so I had a good idea of what was coming.

Below is a copy of the speech:

Hello,

My name is James Bussey II and I am here to give testimony in support of House Bill 24.  I started a web site called newromesucks.com almost two years ago in response to the injustice I received in New Rome.  At first, my work was for my own personal campaign against the village, but as stories of physical, mental, and financial abuse started pouring in from all over the nation, it became a personal cause to see New Rome removed from the maps.

New Rome has existed for over fifty years and much of that time it has been a traffic trap and source of government corruption.  The corruption has become a joke to a lot of people who have learned the hard way that you have to drive around New Rome or risk being ensnared by their trap, but as with most humor, there is an underlying tone of anger and frustration.  I have felt this anger and frustration as I tried to fight their system and lost to their corrupt ways.  With my web site I am attempting to stop New Rome’s trap through sharing mine and other stories on my web site.  Though I am but one man, my message has reached tens of thousands of people across the world through the Internet, radio broadcasts, newspapers, and national television with the hope that through the sharing of knowledge I could make a difference.  Of the hundreds of letters of support I receive there is a reoccurring question: “Why hasn't the State done something to stop New Rome?”  To get the answer, I emailed the Office of the State Attorney General and was told of "home rule" which state that villages (such as New Rome) should be able to correct any situations that arise itself without State intervention.  While the concept of “home rule” is great for large villages with lots of residents, sadly, it does not work when dealing with a hand full of people, who happen to be part of the problem.

Current laws lack the ability to clean up a corrupt and undersized village such as New Rome, since only residents can vote to elect officials or dissolve the village.  With just twenty-one residents deciding against dissolution, the fates of thousands of others are decided and a situation described by our State Auditor and Department of Transportation as wrong and illegal is allowed to continue.  The will of the people of Ohio is cast aside because no law gives us a voice to tell New Rome “We do not want your community as part of our State any longer!”  No matter how many millions in the State might say New Rome should be dissolved, it continues to hide behind a State made blanket of sovereignty and self-administration.  It is like allowing a group of children to run things as they want and tell them to punish themselves when they break the rules.

To date no laws have been created to deal with corrupt and undersized villages.  House Bill 24 is a start to this process and will give Ohio what it needs to deal with the corruption that has plagued this great State for far too many years.

I would like to draw attention to the latest batch of Tales of Woe.  The one I got tonight has really set me off.  New Rome continues to target new Columbus residents that have valid out of state licenses but haven't obtained an Ohio license yet.  I would urge anyone with a ticket such as this to get a lawyer and get the case out of New Rome.  As stated on the Ohio BMV website, there is some discretion as to when you officially become as "resident" of Ohio.

Check back because we are drafting a plan of action to combat this scourge on Columbus's newest residents.

There are also some GREAT letters on the Alisa page.

7:30am - Visitors

I like to visit some of the sites that have referred people to newromesucks.com.
I just want to share a few I have found:

The Voyeur of Fashion, Art, and Politics - The name says it all!
WrestlingClassics.com - For wrestling fans
Bimmerforums.com - Can't go wrong with a BMW!
The National Motorists Association - Fighting for all drivers rights

Please notes:  I am not responsible for the content on any of the above sites!  I just list them as I see them.

New Rome has avoided the news for a few days now.  I don't view this as a bad thing because just when things slow down something big happens!  Stay tuned!

8:02am - Happy Valentines Day

I'd take New Rome being dissolved over a box of candy any day!

I got an email from a Legislative Aide of State Representative Larry Wolpert asking if I would be interested in testifying in favor of HB 24.  I told him HECK YEAH!  Whatever I can do to help bring down New Rome!

Also a slight change in the date of the march.  Gona move it to April 26th since Easter falls on April 20th.  Don't want to cause conflicts with supporters schedules.
